This 4 day workshop will focus on painting a model from life in natural light. Emphasis will be on the beauty of the flesh color notes in natural light and understanding the form of the head. The workshop will begin with setting up the live model, lighting, color notes, finding a composition with an interesting theme and creating a small color study of the whole composition in preparation for the finished work. Observing this workshop set-up, procedure and execution will be effective for artists when presenting clients the initial ideas and sketches when a commission is underway. The workshop will also include a demo by Mary Minifie and painting time. Lunch time will be used to discuss business angles of the portrait business. At the end of the workshop, there will be a slide lecture, Fireside chat and final critique session which can include work not painted in the workshop.
