This course will introduce students to a classical drawing approach. Over the two weeks students will work to train their ability to see, understand, and recreate life. Additionally, students will gain historical insight into the methods of the 19th century French Academics. Skills gained in this workshop create a foundation on which all visual arts rest.
Bargue drawing (9:30am to 12) provides the essential underlying structure for all successful drawing. In this class we will use masterful charcoal plates completed by 19th century artists to learn how to realize a drawing from simple shapes into one with realistic rendering of light and form.
Figure drawing (12:30 to 3:30pm) will provide the life element present in all great drawing. Students will be given a specific method for creating the figure. Students will become familiar with ideas like Simplicity, Gesture, Structure, Rhythm, Articulation, and Form.
