A native of New York City, Steven Assael is one of America’s leading contemporary figurative masters. He is a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and New York Academy Graduate School. His paintings are in public and private collections throughout the country. Assael’s work predominantly portrays the beauty of his subjects, but he also incorporates both their grittiness and their poignancy, all qualities of the modern human struggle. Through his selective process of rendering the human form, he derives his techniques from the Old Masters to create works of art that grab the viewer’s attention and capture the true essence of the model.
