Welcome to Miano Academy of Art!
Our art academy was founded in 2007, in the sunny paradise of Sarasota, Florida. It was then fondly known as The Southern Atelier and became a workshop modeled after old master studios of antiquity. Here, artists can totally immerse themselves in the delights of studying the classical arts of drawing, painting and sculpture from nature.
We have something for everyone here. Whether you are ready for the Master’s journey in our ARC approved Apprenticeship here in Sarasota, or you would like to pursue your studies to the fullest in our Online Atelier Experience, know that we are committed to excellence in art education and traditions of beauty that have their origins in the high art of history.

A distinguished Classical Realism art school founded in 2007 by Charles Miano. We embody a rich lineage of artistic traditions rooted in Renaissance teachings and 19th Century Paris ateliers. With over 20 years of experience, Miano has taught traditional art and the “atelier method.” As the academy’s hands-on director, he is widely recognized for his attentive and intensive teaching methods, as well as his generous support of emerging artists.
We offer our signature Atelier Apprenticeship, Master Workshops and a variety of Courses. Our visual arts program of direct drawing and painting from life emphasizes the application of old master craftsmanship and the observational study of color and light, as created by the sun’s illumination of nature.

Atelier (at-l-yey’) is a French word that means "workshop." At Miano Academy of Art, it refers to more than just a working studio it embodies a teaching tradition rooted in the classical art studios of 15th-19th century Europe. The Atelier Method offers a hands-on, immersive style of instruction, where artists learn and refine their craft under the guidance of a master, much like the great studios of the Old Masters.
