Drawing Draped Figure in the Italian Tradition

Join Charles Miano in this comprehensive online workshop as he guides you through the art of drawing the human figure in the tradition of Italian Renaissance art. This workshop focuses on capturing the elegance and dynamism characteristic of this influential artistic era.

Charles will teach you how to portray the human form with precision, emphasizing the interplay of shadow and light to sculpt the planes of the figure. The workshop will cover techniques to enhance your understanding of anatomy and gesture, as well as the integration of drapery to add depth and realism to your drawings.

Through Miano’s sculptural and mass-oriented approach, you will improve your ability to see and interpret form accurately. This method combines abstract freedom with traditional studio techniques, allowing you to maintain the beauty and naturalism characteristic of Italian realism.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, offering valuable insights and techniques to deepen your practice of figure drawing, anatomy, and the depiction of drapery.

    Palette & Mediums

    • Large Palette & Palette Knife
    • Non-glass container with lid
    • Maroger
    • Walnut Oil, for cleaning brushes
    • Paper towels
    • Medium: graphite, charcoal, or sanguine, whichever is preferred

    *Note: turpentine, mineral spirits or any other toxic solvents are not recommended*

    • Panels or Canvas: cotton or linen- variety of sizes (8×10, 11×14, 14×18, 16×20 etc)

    (*Charles tones his canvas with an imprimatura of earth tones)
