Description
Charles is back from his workshop in Alaska, and he’s brought back a surprise for everyone: Inspiration! The snowy peaks and vast Boreal forests of the far north couldn’t be more different than the Academy’s tropical home in Florida, and for this online workshop, Charles will be pulling a figure straight from Alaskan history! Join us in this class to paint an Alaskan Mountain man–the rugged men who traveled through the American Northwest and Canada on fur trapping expeditions.
You will practice the fundamentals of portraiture, as well as exploring the depth of texture and unique challenges in capturing this figure. You will study the delicate process of painting a beard, wrinkled skin, and thick fur garments. Join Charles Miano on an expressive exploration of character and costume in his unique classical approach to portrait drawing and painting portraits with historical clothing! Miano will highlight his special sprezzatura style which distinguishes his work as both studied and bold. You will learn how to use “Golden Age” palette mixtures for creating life-like portraits in oil in the grand manner of Rembrandt and the Old Masters.
With Miano’s sculptural and mass-oriented approach, you will realize your full potential of seeing. Miano’s method blends a perfect balance of an abstract, free approach with the traditional studio technique. Unleash your power of personal expression while maintaining the beauty and naturalness of realism.
