Description
This June, artists wanting to embrace a new medium can learn the Miano Method’s nuanced approach to drawing portraits in red chalk. The in-depth, comprehensive workshop breaks down the fundamentals from blocking in shapes to an explanation of edges and morphology. Students will learn classical methods passed down through history from the great Masters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael. Miano will be illuminating how the mark of an excellent portrait isn’t just a captured likeness, it’s about a captured feeling. Portraiture is an opportunity to represent the soul of a sitter, tell a piece of their story, and evoke powerful emotions.
If you’ve never worked in sanguine, prepare to be amazed. In this workshop, you will explore methods for using this unique and delicate medium to create portraits overflowing with warmth, depth, and a certain je ne sais quoi — a sense of character unmatched by most mediums. You will learn classic strategies that have created generations of exquisite, expressive portraits in sanguine. Work alongside Charles Miano in his signature medium, and watch as your portrait comes to life in soft red tones.
With Miano’s sculptural and mass-oriented approach, you will realize your full potential of seeing. Miano’s method blends a perfect balance of an abstract, free approach with the traditional studio technique. Unleash your power of personal expression while maintaining the beauty and naturalness of realism.
