2023 Atelier Summer Intensive

Miano Academy invites you to join our Apprentices and experience the Atelier lifestyle!

This seven-week intensive gives you the opportunity to study full time, five days a week, in our world-class Apprenticeship program.  You will be introduced to Charles Miano’s signature method of Atelier training, influenced by the principles of the Renaissance and the techniques of 19th century drawing and painting guilds. You will work individually on drawing projects of your choice, guided by the Miano Academy Apprentice Curriculum, and tailored to your level of skill and previous experience. You will work in graphite and charcoal, developing and deepening your fundamental understanding of Shape, Form, and Value. Each week will include 9-12 hours of drawing from life, with a variety of figure models available for practicing portrait, gesture, academic long pose, and clothed figure drawing.

Project options include:

• Bargue drawing
• Master Copy
• Cast drawing
• Figure and Portrait long pose

Alongside your hands-on practice, you will observe demonstrations by Charles Miano, be introduced to the essential materials and their uses, and participate in art history chats with Charles and his Apprentices. You will leave not only with the skills developed in this intensive, but with the knowledge to continue your studies further. You will learn who and what to study, how to find new depth in art, and how to truly see your subject as you draw. One-on-one critiques with Charles will help you identify your own stumbling blocks, while group critiques develop your artistic eye and reveal common mistakes made by artists of all levels.

This program is perfect for artists who are considering the Miano Academy Apprenticeship, but are unsure if it is right for them or unable to make the long-term commitment. It is also great for those who have attended our Online or Part Time classes and want to spend more time focusing on their craft, or students attending a more traditional art college who want to get experience in a unique and rare style of arts education.
