Figure Sculpture Workshop with Stephen Perkins
April 26 – 28, 2013 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This intensive workshop would appeal to anyone interested in the figure as an art form – sculptors,
painters, draftsmen and graphic artists alike. It will involve working from a live model and capturing
the gesture through rapid block-in sketches – but in clay as opposed to charcoal. Seeing the form in
this simple manner, in large masses, will allow students to grasp its essence: life qualities,
proportions and movements. They will then “draw out” these fast starts, spending additional time
on them in their investigation of technique and structure. Towards the end, efforts towards a more
finished look will be intensified. Critiques and demonstrations will focus on the entire figure along
with details such as hands, feet, torso etc. Rather than creating one piece over the course, students
will develop their abilities through multiple pieces, so it is recommended they bring a camera in
order to record their progress.
Tuition: $395
